Sunday mornings come and go Your eyes stuck in your head like stones Ivy growing wild up on the wall Where you lean your back upon The days like smoke already gone And you finally seem to understand it all I’ll stare at your face Is this all you’re gonna leave behind? Your faded smile Your black and white eyes I see you from miles away Your past and future here to day I see the steam boiling out your mouth Something that you want to say? Words like steam, boiling away Sometimes you don’t know till you let it out I’ll stare at your face Is this all you’re gonna leave behind Your crooked smile Your black and white eyes Lights come on at the strangest times You hide your thoughts trying to heal your mind Like the last leaves on the ground Like you won’t see me around Sunday evening gone again Somewhere over Michigan Someone you love waving at the glass I’ll stare at your face Is this all you’re gonna leave behind Your faded love Your black and white eyes

Fences 03:28
Oh well it wasn’t love But it was good practice Lying in your arms I will try to believe, I will try Until the paint starts peeling off I’m a world when I’m awake I’m a four leaf clover Penny on the ground I will try to believe, I will try Until someone shakes me loose Oh my god I’m another day older I still look like a kid from the next town over With the fences overgrown And I don’t want to hear about it Another day Like a thread in my teeth Breaking at the ends I will try to be more patient, I will try Until it all gets ripped away Whatever, I misspoke I’m not close captioned Listen to me whine I will try to be more patient with myself Until it’s crawling up my skin Oh my god I’m another day older Still look like a kid from the next town over With the fences overgrown And I don’t want to hear about it Oh my god I’m another day older Still look like a kid from the next town over With the fences overgrown And I just want to hear about it

about

I'm happy to present these new versions of Black & White Eyes and Fences. These songs were originally part of my 2022 album, Static, that I released under the Stanhope moniker, but for a variety of reasons they've changed quite a bit as I've performed them more and more. Some songs are like that. I find most of mine change over time as the way I feel about things changes. That's actually something I enjoy most about songs is how adaptable they can be to different periods in life, different people, or places.

I've been working on a new album at Kingsize Sound Labs in Chicago and during my first few sessions there, I recorded these, and am very pleased to share a different side of two songs that are among my favorites to perform.

I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed recording. The other instruments you hear are played by some of my favorites: David Prusina, John Abbey, and Brian Wilkie.

Thanks for listening,
Chris Rawlins
